Indian
economy has grown at the rate of over 9% in the last two years and it is expected
to grow at a high rate in coming years. The robust economic growth, rising standard
of living and a large population base of India provides a vast market for Technical
Textiles, both for domestic and global players, in various sectors like defense,
healthcare, agriculture, automobiles, railways, construction, packaging, fire
retardants etc. In addition, given the huge infrastructure needs of India in the
years to come, a large potential awaits the technical textiles industry in Indian
market.
In view of the growing importance of technical textiles world over
and to address the problems plaguing the technical textiles industry in India,
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh, in September 2007 announced
the launch of Technology Mission on Technical Textiles, which would be implemented
in the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) of Government of India. The mission would
provide support for the development of technical textiles industry with the following
broad objectives :
- Capacity building
of manufacturers
- Standardization,
product development, common testing facilities
-
Domestic and export market development
-
Skill development
In this
context, FICCI is organizing a one-day Global Conference on Technical Textiles
that would highlight the importance of technical textiles in various application
areas. FICCI's Conference on technical textiles would provide an excellent platform
for the interaction between manufacturers/traders, research institutes, policy
makers and users of technical textiles. The Conference would offer several sessions
focusing both on policy issues and latest developments in various segments of
technical textiles. The Conference aims to bring together all players in the value
chain of technical textiles.
