India is one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world with an addition of more than 6 million connections per month. FDI inflow in Indian Telecom sector is the highest among all sectors. It is emerging as telecom manufacturing hub. Year 2007 has been declared as "Year of Broadband" in India.

FICCI has been monitoring the present status and achievements in the field of telecom.
FICCI's Telecom Committee focuses on working in close association with the industry. It works for industry inputs in all issues and matters concerning Indian Telecom industry. It is a platform for the Indian Telecom industry to come together for policy changes and promote mutual interaction with companies in this sector. It is dedicated to work towards the development of the Indian Telecom industry and to create synergy between the Indian Telecom industry & Global organizations. This committee prepares papers, organized business events and actively participate in multilateral forums to create the linkages between the Indian Telecom Industry and the user industries in India and in the world market, leveraging FICCI's global network.

Goals & Objectives of the Committee:

  • Identifying major areas of growth in the sector.
  • Identifying the competitiveness & potential areas for synergy in the global market.
  • To organize interactive meetings among the members for taking up the challenges and working towards the opportunities.
  • Conducting Workshops/ Seminars/ Conferences/ Training Programmes for promotion and better understanding of the sector and taking up the issues and challenges and working towards the opportunities.

To track some of the best practices in the telecom sector and lay down a roadmap for Indian Telecom Industry, FICCI organized an international Conference & Exhibition 'India Telecom 2006- Mapping the Road Ahead'. The objective of this conference was to discuss new growth drivers that are revolutionizing the telecom sector in India and around the world and assess challenges and opportunities associated with new technologies and new growth frontiers.

"India Telecom 2007-Connecting the Masses" has been scheduled from 12th-15th December 2007 in New Delhi, India.
