Cycle - Expedition from Delhi to Ladhak

An inspiration to the corporate world to go beyond their core - competencies and in an effort to encourage spirit of adventure, a 5 member team from GTL Limited being supported by FICCI, was flagged off on a 20 day cycle expedition from Delhi to Ladhak, FICCI on 14th May 2003.

The expedition was flagged off in the presence of Top Sports personalities, past and present, from various disciplines of sports like Zafar Iqbal (Hockey), Jaspal Rana (Shooting) and Sushil Metha (Judo). During the flagged off ceremony Mr. Swagat Bam, Secretary FICCI gave the welcome address and Mr. Amitabh Singhal, Sr. Vice President, GTL Limited gave the presentation on the expedition.

The expedition will cross 5 states in this period and will do this without any vehicular support.This team will pass through some of the most treacherous and challenging routes consisting of 5 mountain passes, at an average height of 17000 feet above sea level, which is believed to be as yet unattempted by any expedition or group before.

The expedition has been divided into three phrases:

1) Delhi - Bilaspur 390Kms
2) Bilaspur - Manali 184Kms
3) Manali - Marsimikla 567Kms

Covering a total of 1141 Kms, in about 20 days.
Objective of this activity was to support and encourage activities like these which not only encourage a healthy environment, but also take an active step towards building a better tomorrow for our youth. This event was covered by both electronic and print media in a big way.

This was not the first initiative by FICCI in supporting such activity, as FICCI has been extending its support towards creating awareness in sports and youth affairs and has done lots of programs for the overall development of sports.
