Brainstorming on "Sports Marketing & Sponsorship in India"

Brainstorming on "Sports Marketing & Sponsorship in India" was organised by FICCI on April 22, 2003 at New Delhi. Mr Shekhar Dutt, Director General, Sports Authority of India gave a Special Address. The Theme Address was given by Mr A K Pandya, Chairman, FICCI Working Group on Sports and Co-Chairman Sports Development Commission, Indian Olympic Association. President FICCI and Mr P Murari, gave their valuable views during the Brainstorming. Dr Amit Mitra, Secretary-General, FICCI presented Welcome Address. Mr I S Bindra, Co-Chairman, FICCI Sports Committee and Mr Brandon De Souza, President, Tiger Sports Marketing Pvt Ltd were the Keynote Speakers in Technical Sessions.

Apart from participants from Industry, representatives of Sports Federations, Sports Authority of India, Sports management also attended the event.

The aim of the event was to discuss issues related to sports marketing & sponsorship, need for sports federations to market themselves and understand the motivation of why corporates choose to associate themselves with sports.

Outcome/Action Points/Recommendations:

Federations will provide their requirement and marketing plan, so that FICCI can initiate following:

  • FICCI will help Federations in promoting Football and Hockey. It was also requested if FICCI can also help Volleyball. These sports have potential to attract mass base provided these are managed and marketed properly.
  • FICCI will organise Interactive Meetings with Sports Media with the help of Federations, to get their help in promoting different sports.
  • Individual industry/Federation like Motor sports, Yatching, Shooting and TeaKando would prepare "white paper" highlighting their problems in importing or getting their sports equipment in India.
  • FICCI will help in organising one-to-one meetings between sports management companies and Sports Federations' on their request.
