FICCI Biotechnology delegation to USA
April 4-5, 2006

FICCI organised a Biotech delegation to New York, USA from April 4-6, 2006, led by Mr Kapil Sibal, Honourable Minister for Science And Technology and Ocean Development, Government of India. On April 5, 2006, Mr Sibal addressed a Breakfast Meeting jointly organized by FICCI and Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU). Thereafter, the Minister launched the India-US Biotech Working Group at Harvard Club, New York and addressed the first meeting of this joint core group of businessmen and CEOs from USA and India. Hon'ble Minister Mr Sibal and Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Dr M K Bhan guided discussions towards formation of specific recommendations keeping in view practical considerations on the basis of the experiences of the business community on both sides.

Interactive Meeting with Mr Robert Vastine, President, Coalition of Service Industries, USA & the Accompanying Business Delegation
April 10, 2006 - New Delhi

FICCI organised an Interactive Meeting with Mr Robert Vastine, President, Coalition of Service Industries (CSI), USA & the accompanying business delegation on April 10, 2006 in New Delhi. The CSI delegation comprised of members from sectors including Media, Financial, Telecom, Computer & Related, & IT Services. The meeting was chaired by Dr Amit Mitra, Secretary General, FICCI and the objective of the meeting was to discuss the services talks within the WTO and ways in which India and the US can work together to ensure that the opportunity that Doha round presents is not lost.

Luncheon Meeting with US Congressional Delegation and U.S. Secretary of Education, Ms Margaret Spellings
April 13, 2006 - New Delhi

FICCI and AMCHAM jointly organised a Luncheon Meeting with US Congressional Delegation led by Senator Michael B. Enzi (State of Wyoming), and U.S. Secretary of Education, Ms. Margaret Spellings on April 13 in New Delhi. The congressional delegation included Senator Lamar Alexander (State of Tennessee) and Senator Johnny Isakson (State of Georgia). The meeting was addressed by Mr K K Modi, Past President, FICCI; Mr Amrit Kiran Singh, Chairman, AMCHAM; Secretary Spellings; Senator Enzi; Senator Alexander; and Senator Isakson.

Interactive Meeting with Mr Franklin L. Lavin, Under Secretary, International Trade, US Department of Commerce
May 2, 2006 - New Delhi

An Interactive Meeting was orgaanised with Mr Franklin L. Lavin, Under Secretary for International Trade, US Department of Commerce, and Ms Holly Vineyard, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Africa, Middle East and South Asia on May 2, 2006 in New Delhi. The meeting was addressed by Mr Franklin L. Lavin, Under Secretary for International Trade, US Department of Commerce and Dr Ajay Dua, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. The meeting was chaired by Mr Saroj K Poddar, President, FICCI and the main objective of the meeting was to discuss Indo-US economic relations, potential areas for enhanced bilateral collaboration and policy changes that may be needed to take bilateral relations to the next level.

Interactive Meeting with Mr Chris Israel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, US Department of Commerce
May 15, 2006 - New Delhi

FICCI organised an interactive meeting with Mr Chris Israel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, US Department of Commerce and the accompanying delegation in New Delhi on May 15, 2006. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss bilateral trade issues with specific reference to Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Protection.

Interactive Meeting with Ambassador Karan Bhatia, Deputy U S Trade Representative and accompanying delegation
May 29, 2006 - New Delhi

FICCI organised an Interactive Meeting with Ambassador Karan Bhatia, Deputy US Trade Representative and the accompanying delegation in New Delhi on May 29, 2006. He was accompanied by Ambassador Douglas Hartwick, Assistant USTR, Mr Robert DeHaan, Special Counsel to Deputy USTR and Ms Adina Adler, Director for South Asia, USTR.

As Deputy USTR, Ambassador Karan Bhatia is a key member of U.S. Trade Representative Portman's senior management team. His portfolio includes overseeing U.S. trade relations with South Asia (including India), East Asia (including China and Japan), Southeast Asia, and Africa.

The meeting was chaired byDr Amit Mitra, Secretary General, FICCI and the main objective of the meeting was to discuss bilateral trade issues especially focusing on policy matters. Ambassador Bhatia also briefed the participants on the current status of the discussions within the U.S.- India Trade Policy Forum.

Interactive Meeting with Maryland India Business Roundtable Biotechnology and Information Technology Trade Mission
June 6, 2006 - New Delhi

FICCI organised a luncheon meeting with Senator John A. Giannetti, Jr Senator from State of Maryland and Co-Chair of Maryland Business Roundtable (MIBRT) in New Delhi on June 6, 2006. He was accompanied by a Biotechnology and Information Technology Trade Mission.

The visiting delegates interacted with Indian companies and discussed possibilities of joint collaboration with companies in Maryland.
