FICCI and California based US Asia
Business Forum (USABF) with the support
of US Department of Commerce, the
Mayor and City of Los Angeles and
the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce
organized the "US-India Investment
Seminar and Business Expo 2006"
on August 21 - 22, 2006 at Los Angeles.
The main objective of this mega event
was to project the Indian opportunity
to the US companies. From the US side,
the Lt Governor of California, Mayor
of Los Angeles, Senior Congressmen
and Senators addressed the participating
delegates at the Investment Seminar.
From India, the Exhibition had participation
from various Indian Export Promotion
Councils and individual companies.
For the first time, the City of Los
Angeles was plastered with banners
of India US synergy under the aegis
of the Mayor of the City.
As a result of this public demonstration
of Indo-US partnership, the Exhibition
of over seventy companies received
major footfalls. The thirty-two companies
from India broke new grounds in Joint
Venture possibilities, investment
opportunities in India and trading
windows.
The thrust sectors for the Seminar
included: Housing and Infrastructure,
Energy (including Power and non-conventional
sources), Information Technology,
Agriculture and Food Processing, Entertainment
(including Animation, Gaming &
Visual Effects), Healthcare, Science
& Technology Collaborations, Biotechnology,
Tourism & Hospitality. There were
nine breakout sessions focusing on
the above sectors, which attracted
three hundred US companies networking
with seventy-five member Indian delegation.
For the first time, a special session
on Alternate Medicine took place in
the United States, which attracted
great attention. The FDA of US had
sent a delegation to this session
to discuss the modalities on how traditional
medicines can be marketed within the
US regulatory structure.
Complimenting FICCI and US-Asia Business
Forum, Ambassador Ronen Sen said this
event has come at a time when there
is "tremendous and radical transformation
of relations between India & US."
US $ 40 billion in goods and services
will be doubled in the next 3-4 years.
