SERBIA & MONTENIGRO

The Republic of Serbia is a democratic state of all citizens who live on its territory, based on human freedom and rights, according to legal regulations and social justice. Its history and achievements make it an integral part of contemporary civilization and the international community. The Republic of Serbia, together with the Republic of Montenegro, is a constituent part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The Economy of Serbia and Montenegro is characterized by agriculture with food industry; energy, mining and metallurgy; industry - engineering, electronic, chemical, pharmaceutical, textile industry; designing, construction and product of building material; traffic - rail, road, air, water (maritime and inland waterways), posts and telecommunications; forestry - wild fruits, berries and mushrooms & woodworking; trade - domestic and foreign; and tourism - seaside, continental, mountain, river/lake, spa tourism.

Large coal deposits and water potential have made possible the construction of modern thermoelectric and hydroelectric power plants which easily meet the domestic requirements and generate surplus for export. Opportunities for further investments and exports are far from small. Extraction of domestic oil and gas is insufficient for overall local requirements but is considerably great. Numerous metallic and non-metallic ore mines supply their products to the iron and steel industry and non-ferrous metallurgy plants and manufacturers of metal and non metallic mineral products.

Industry: the engineering, electronic, chemical, pharmaceutical and textile industries have been great exporters for many years. In all parts of country and in many foreign countries there are numerous valuable works of their designers, builders, and manufacturers of materials and equipment.

The geographic position, as well as overland, river and maritime waterways, make Serbia and Montenegro unavoidable in terms of traffic. Necessary level of development and work is seen to, in order that the country remains a good foreign partner. Abundance forests, various wild fruits, berries and mushrooms, and exquisite wild game is the basic of the industry using these raw materials. This industry has substantial cooperation with the world market.

Domestic and foreign trade is growing and enjoying world recognition. Trade is a competent partner at the domestic and foreign markets. Numerous natural attractions, spiritual and cultural monuments, as well as modern establishments and service centers make Serbia and Montenegro highly interesting. The country is capable of offering very diversified high-quality tourist services. Such an economy, with competent research centers, offers numerous attractive opportunities.
