National Conference on "Maritime Arbitration: Evidence, Techniques and Enforcement'
June 27, 2009 - Cochin

The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) and the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Cochin are jointly organizing a National Conference on "Maritime Arbitration: Evidence, Techniques and Enforcement" at 10.00 a.m. on June 27, 2009 at the Chamber Hall, Shanmugham Road, Cochin-31. Hon'ble Mr. Justice S R Bannurmath, Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala has kindly consented to inaugurate the Conference and Mr. Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan, Judge High Court of Kerala will deliver the Key Note Addres.

Mr. M K Damodaran, Senior Advocate and Former Advocate General, Govt. of Kerala and Mr. S Venkiteswaran, Senior Advocate, Mumbai, Mr. N Ramachandran, Chairman, Cochin Port Trust, Mr. Anwar Hashim, National President, Sea-Food Exporters Association of India, Mr. Rajesh Asher, President, Cochin Steamer Agents Association, Capt. J S Gill, Member, ICA Governing Body, Mr. P M Abraham, Former Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport, Govt. of India and luminaries in the field of Maritime Arbitration will address the Conference.

The Conference will discuss the following subjects:

1. Maritime & Shipping Disputes
2. Effects of the special maritime procedure law on maritime arbitration
3. Maritime Arbitration under ICA Maritime Arbitration Rules
4. Carriage of Goods: Legislations, Conventions, Charter Parties and Bill of Lading
i) The reform of the guenon transport law
ii) Salient features of transport contract law
iii) Goodbye to the hague rules and all that?
iv) Lifting the fog on collision law
v) Definition of "Carrier", past, present and what is the future
