About the Conclave
About
the Conclave
FICCI Environment Conclave
is stepping into its fifth year. The Conclave has been a platform
for facilitating policy dialogue, business linkages, technology
tie-ups and public private partnerships in sustainable waste
management. For the past four years, the Conclave has brought
together stakeholders engaged across the waste management
spectrum under one platform. The Conclave has laid progressively
more thrust on public private partnerships, the key to success
of waste management initiatives at the municipal as well as
industrial level.
The Conclave is a complete
forum for waste management business across sectors and has
emerged as an effective platform for Indian and global waste
management stakeholders to create business linkages, gain
knowledge and establish their presence in the evolving waste
management market.
The conference this year will
focus on the theme "Advancing public private partnerships
for sustainable waste management" by showcasing PPP models
that are in operation, scope for PPP in different states and
municipalities and the impetus needed to put PPP models in
place. State governments are also increasingly focusing on
an integrated approach to waste management and developing
models that incorporate private sector participation at different
levels of the waste management chain - collection, transportation,
recycling, treatment and disposal. Initiatives of different
state governments have been showcased at the Conclave in the
past. This year also the Conclave will present waste management
initiatives of state governments that have taken the lead
to address waste management through a public private partnership
model.
The two important focus areas
of the Conclave would be municipal waste management and industrial
waste management. The Conclave this year is launching a series
of sessions under industrial hazardous waste management specifically
for different industry sectors. The Conclave would bring the
industry up to speed with the status of select sectors with
respect to waste management, clean technology implementation
and opportunities for PPP in managing industrial waste.
Highlights
of FICCI Environment Conclave 2005-2008
The FICCI Environment Conclave
was established as a platform for facilitating policy dialogue,
business linkages, technology tie-ups and public private partnerships
for sustainable waste management. The Conclave since 2005
has been organised with the support of Ministry of Environment
and Forests, Government of India. In 2008 the Ministry of
Urban Development, Government of India, also extended its
support as a Partner, and facilitated the participation of
Municipal Corporations.
The objective of the Conclave
has been to provide a forum for discussion on topical issues
of waste management and find solutions for enabling greater
private sector participation in urban and industrial waste
management services and infrastructure. The second objective
of this Conclave has been to bring together all stakeholders
of the waste management chain for networking and initiating
public private partnerships for waste management projects.
Last years' Conclave specifically
highlighted policy direction for municipal solid waste by
sharing approaches adopted by State Governments of Madhya
Pradesh, Delhi and West Bengal. FICCI also launched the MSW
Public Private Partnership Forum in 2008 - a forum for direct
interface between Urban Local Bodies and private waste management
operators to share their concerns and expectations.
The Conclave has attracted
international participation from Australia, Belgium, Finland,
France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, Spain, Netherlands, Taiwan,
UK and US. It has garnered diverse stakeholder participation
from private waste management operators, industry, government
and Municipal Corporations (Ahmedabad, Ambattur, Coimbatore,
Delhi, Faridabad, Greater Mumbai, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore,
Ludhiana, Jamshedpur, Pune, Jharkhand, Kolhapur, Madurai,
Nasik, Rajkot, Suryapet and Vishakapatnam).
